SUE ELLEN DEPRIEST

Sue Ellen DePriest, age 62, of Aurora, passed away at 11:18 p.m. on Sunday, September 5, 2010, at her home. She was born on May 22, 1948, in Wheaton, Missouri, the daughter of Bryan and Thelma Marie (Long) Cook. On April 24, 1993 she married Fred L. DePriest in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. He survives her of the home.

Additional survivors include; two sons, John Bowman and his wife, Sandra of Crane, Jerry Bowman of Springfield; one daughter, Enisa DePriest and her husband, Joe of Aurora; one sister Mary Price and her husband, Carol Max of Joplin; stepdaughter, Jennifer Yeager and her husband, Doug of Sparta, Jackie Kenyon and her husband, Richard of Texarkana, Arkansas and Jane DePriest of Ozark; and 11 grandchildren. Her parents, one grandson, Brandon Cox; one brother, Paul Cook; and one sister, Betty Fox, preceded her in death.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 9, 2010, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home chapel.

Doug Seneker Funeral

Douglas D. Seneker, 75, Mt. Vernon, passed away Tuesday morning, Aug. 10, 2010, at St. John’s, Springfield, after suffering a heart attack.

He was born July 5, 1935, in Mt. Vernon to Dwight and Elizabeth (Orr) Seneker; graduated from North Kansas City (Mo.) High School; and attended Park College and Central Missouri State University.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran , achieving the highest rank available to enlisted personnel, command sergeant major.

He spent over 50 years in law enforcement, beginning his career in the U.S. Military Police at age 17. He served as a police officer in North Kansas City; staff supervisor of the Kansas City Metropolitan Major Case Squad; detective lieutenant in the Clay County Sheriff’s Department; and chief of police in the Kansas City suburb of Riverside.

Seneker created and managed the corporate security and safety department for Sprint-United in Kansas City before returning to his native Lawrence County in 1983. He served as chief deputy of the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office before being elected sheriff in 1996. He retired from that office after completing two terms.

His interests and accomplishments covered a wide range. He was involved in firefighting from the age of 19. He was a musician and singer, known for his performances with his twin brother, Don, and sister, Sue. He had served as regional Boy Scout district commissioner; was president of the Ozarks Amateur Radio Society; was past president of the Lawrence County Historical Society; current president of the Ozarks chapter of the Missouri Archaeological Society; and chaired numerous organizations and special projects over the years.

Among his many honors, he was selected as Mt. Vernon’s Citizen of the Year for his work combatting drugs.

Seneker was considered a walking encyclopedia of Civil War history, and had been active in the Lone Jack Volunteers, Civil War Round Table and other groups. Most recently, he has been working with the Jasper County Commission and others to mark and preserve a site where 15 Union soldiers were killed by a party of Confederates, prompting a retaliatory strike that destroyed the surrounding community.

One of Seneker’s most visible, longterm local projects has been restoration of the historic Adamson Cabin in Mt. Vernon. Memorials are suggested to the Adamson Cabin preservation fund, in care of the funeral home, to continue his work there.

Doug Seneker married Harriet West June 30, 2001. She survives.

He is also survived by six children and two stepsons, Mary Seneker, Mark Seneker, Lisa McElwee and Deanna Schoonover and their mother, Fran, Danny Seneker and Donna Wilkerson and their mother, Carole, and David West and Steven West; a sister, Sue Seneker; and 19 grandchildren and stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Don, and a grandson.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, at First Presbyterian Church, Cherry and Main streets, Mt. Vernon. Burial will be in Ozark Prairie Cemetery, northeast of Mt. Vernon.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, 510 E. Cherry St., Mt. Vernon.

DAVID LAMONT PELLOR

David Lamont Pellor, age 42, of Springfield, passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at Christian Health Care in Republic, Missouri. David was born on January 21, 1968 in Santa Monica, California, the son of Gary Pellor and Betty Little. David attended school in Aurora, Missouri and also attended the Second Baptist Church in Springfield. On February 14, 1995 he married April Dawn Richardson in Springfield, Missouri.

Those surviving him include; his wife, April of Springfield; son, Brandon Lee Pellor of Fordland; mother Betty Allen, of Aurora; father, Gary Pellor and his wife, Darlene, of Galt, California; sister, Sara Hyatt of Aurora; three brothers, Derek Williams, Trevor Williams, and his wife Terra, all of Aurora; and Andrew Williams and his wife, Michelle of Billings; two half brothers, Christian and Kevin Pellor of Galt, California; and nine nieces and nephews.

His stepfathers, Robert Allen and Dave Williams; grand parents, Frank and Nova Little; and Kenneth and Louise Pellor; sister, Donna Michelle DeSilva; uncle Robert Little, niece, Mattilyn Williams and two cousins preceded him in death.

Local arrangements are under the direction of the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held at Morning Star Baptist Church, 3 miles north of Crane, on Monday, August 2, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the funeral home in David’s name.

Shelby Estep, 17 Services Sunday 7-25

Shelby Lea Estep, Aurora, Mo., daughter of Mark and Shawna (Dittmar) Estep was born January 3, 1993 in Springfield, Mo., and departed this life July 21, 2010, from injuries of a car accident, at the age of 17.
Shelby was a lifelong resident of the area. She attended Marionville High School and was a member of the FFA having served as Area 12 First Vice President and Vice President of the Marionville FFA. Shelby was active in high school softball, a member of the National Honor Society and worked on the school yearbook. She also was a member of the Northpoint Church in Springfield and was involved with the Northpoint Youth. She loved the game of softball and played on the SW MO Eclipse traveling softball team. In Shelby's free time, she enjoyed doing volunteer work at the Ozark Empire Fair.
Survivors include: her parents, Mark and Shawna Estep of Aurora; sisters, Jamie Leech of Marionville and Cheyanne Estep of the home; grandparents, Dwight and Judy Dittmar, Martha Johns, Knial Iorg and Wendall and Connie Estep; aunts and uncles, Dusty and Amy Dittmar, Shelley and Terry Cape and Patty Iorg; cousins, Klayton Dittmar, Koy Dittmar, Julia Cape, Jesse Cape and Grant Cape and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, July 25, 2010 in Northpoint Church, Springfield, Mo., with Cliff Henry and Troy Hartman officiating. Burial will be in Charity Cemetery, Crane under the direction of Manlove-Stumpff Funeral Home, Crane.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m., Saturday in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to the Shelby Estep memorial fund to be used for an FFA Scholarship Fund at First Independent Bank or Impact at Northpoint Church.

John Loyd Spielman passed away on April 25, 2010, at the age of 66 years, 2 months and 2 days. He was a resident of the Lawrence County Manor in Mt. Vernon, Missouri. John was born in Miller, Missouri the son of Frank and Vera (Bridgewater) Spielman on February 28, 1944. John attended Miller Public Schools, Ozark Christian College in Joplin, Missouri, and was a member of Miller Christian Church. He enjoyed his association with the Eureka Springs, Arkansas Passion Play where he was an Assistant Director and played the role of Caiaphas. John was also employed by the Security Department of Missouri Rehabilitation Center in Mt. Vernon, Missouri and Springfield, Missouri.

John was preceded in death by his parents and sister Barbara Jean Spielman. John is survived by his brother Richard (Mary Jo) Spielman of Oro Valley, Arizona; nephews Jeff (Oneta) Spielman of Thornton, Colorado, Michael Spielman of Laveen, Arizona; two grand nieces; two grand nephews; one great grand niece; four aunts; 1 uncle; and numerous cousins.

The family wishes to express their extreme gratitude towards John’s childhood and lifelong friend, John Adamson, his aide, Diane Bekemeier and Lawrence County Manor for the care they provided for John.

Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home is handlling the arrangements. There will be a memorial service at a later date.

Dean Othel Biellier, age 55, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at his home on Friday, April 30, 2010. He was born on November 14, 1954 in Springfield, the son of Othel and Joan (Garoutte) Biellier. Dean was a 1973 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School, and had previously worked as a welder for Country Flame and Trans Pro.

Those surviving him include; his son, Joseph Dean Biellier; his mother, Joan Biellier; and one brother, Douglas Biellier and his wife, Debra, all of Mt. Vernon; three sisters, Linda Richardson and her husband, Larry, of Monett; Janet Kuhl of Dallas, Texas and Reta Smothers and her husband, David of Mt.Vernon; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. His father preceded him in death.

Joshua Lee Allen, age 23, of Aurora, passed away at 9:37 a.m. on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at the St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. He was born on January 21, 1987 in Turlock, California, the son of Robert Bruce and Madeline (Ramirez) Allen, Jr. Josh was a 2006 graduate of Aurora High School. He worked for Tyson Food’s and was in the Army National Guard.

Those surviving him include: his parents, Bob and Madeline Allen of Aurora; his daughter, Ashlyne Mott; one sister, Mary Castro and her husband, Michael of Blythe, California; one brother, Elbert Perez of Aurora; half sister, Jolita Bunch of Monett; paternal grandfather, Robert Allen, Sr. of California; and step grandfather, Freddy Saranaria of Livermore, California. His paternal grandmother and maternal grandparents preceded him in death.

Helen Madeline Comstock, age 98, of Mt. Vernon, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 10:20 a.m. on Friday, April 16, 2010, at the Mt. Vernon Place Care Center. She was born on December 29, 1911, in King City, Missouri the daughter of Tilman and Pearl (DeWeese) Pittsenbarger. She was the last surviving child of seven sisters and two brothers. On April 20, 1930 she married Glen Allen Comstock in Joplin, Missouri and they spent fifty-seven years together making a living on the farm.

Helen was famous for her homemade bread and vegetable soup and never failed to minister to the sick and needy with the produce and flowers from her gardens. She loved her Lord and Savior, gardening, quilting, embroidery, and working on the farm. She always saw the good in everyone and had a wonderful sense of humor. Helen was dearly loved by all her family and everyone who ever knew her. She was a lifelong member of the Ozark Prairie Presbyterian “Brick” Church.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Margaret Ann Samuels and her husband, Bobby of Mt. Vernon; her son, Glen David Comstock, and his wife Judy, of Topeka, Kansas; her grandchildren Jane Ann, Allen, Joyce, Jason, Emily and her husband, Mike Marusiak; and six great grandchildren. Her parents, husband and all of her siblings preceded her in death.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at the Ozark Prairie Presbyterian Church at the Ozark Prairie Cemetery next to her husband. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 19 at the funeral home chapel.

A special thank you to all of the staff at the Mt. Vernon Place Care Center who loved and cared for our mother so well during her last years.

Linda June Miller-Honeycutt, age 57, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Cox South Hospital in Springfield. She was diagnosed with lung cancer in December of 2009. Linda grew up in Arizona and was a 1971 graduate of South Mountain High School in Phoenix, Arizona. She was born on November 12, 1952 in Stillwell, Oklahoma the daughter of Harry Earl and Opal Elnora (Steen) Miller, Sr.

Those surviving her include: one son, Jason Allen Moore, Sr.; one grandson, Jason Allen Moore, Jr., both of Dallas, Texas; one sister, Lenna Jean Miller-Rowe and her husband, David of Monett; three brothers, Harry Earl Miller, Jr. of Springfield, Colorado, Charles David Miller of Walsh, Colorado, Ronald Dean Miller of Orlando, Florida; niece, Lynda Hull and her husband, John of Mt. Vernon; and several additional nieces and nephews. Her parents, three brothers, George Elbert, Kenneth Ray and Jerry Don Miller preceded her in death.

Peter Chei, Freistatt - Service Thursday

Peter Yee-Chung Chei, age 65, of Freistatt, Missouri, passed away at 4:18 a.m. on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at the St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. He was born on November 18, 1944 in Sh’nyang, China, the son of Andrew Li-Chung and Pricilla Wei-Chow Chei. Peter moved to Springfield, Missouri from Hong Kong in 1964, where he attended Evangel College. Peter was referred to as a Missionary in America and dedicated his life to visiting schools and sharing in the music of the gospel. After college he traveled to all of the states. In 1993 he moved to Mt. Vernon, Missouri where he pastored at the Free Methodist Church. He currently was the Pastor at C.H.R.I.S.T. Fellowship in El Dorado Springs, was the organist and choir director for the First Christian Church in El Dorado Springs, and the Chaplin Coordinator for the Missouri Rehabilitation Center. Peter played an active role in promoting and coordinating well-known Christian artists within the Midwest. He was truly a man of God in all aspects of his life. On September 29, 2001 he married Diana L. Flynn in Mt. Vernon. She survives him of the home.

Additional survivors include: his father, Andrew Chei of Brooklyn, New York; three sons, Jason Chung-Chi Chei and his wife, Sunny, James Chei all of Nevada, Missouri; Jared Yung-Chi Chei and his wife, Lieca of Xioing, China; one sister Ruth Piscopo and her husband, Richard of North Tampa, Florida; two brothers, David Chei and his wife, Nancy of Long Island, New York, and John Chei and his wife, Judy of Queens, New York; three grandchildren, Jayden, Mia, and Ara-Leigh; and the mother of his children, Janice McDonald. His mother preceded him in death.

Virginia Cleta Johnson, age 93, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 7:53 a.m. on Monday, April 12, 2010 at the Lawrence County Manor in Mt. Vernon. She was born on August 14, 1916 in Greene County, the daughter of Elmer and Texa (Mynatt) West. Virginia married Olan Francis West on January 23, 1936. He preceded her in death February of 1984. She was a homemaker and a member of the Onward United Methodist Church.

Those surviving her include: two daughters, Sharlyn Emerson of Mt. Vernon, and Betty Wood and her husband, Don of Billings; four grandchildren, Greg Prater, Stephanie Colley, Chris Prater, and Kevin Wood; five great grandchildren, Jason Prater, Erika Elmore, Brandon Colley, Rachel Colley and Jared Prater; and four great-great grandchildren, Sydnee, Shaye and Sophie Prater, and Joey Elmore. Her parents; four sisters, Irene Cardwell, Thelma Winn, Faye Tiller, and Jewell Cropper; and two brothers, Arvel and Theodore West also preceded her in death.

Robert Lee “Bob” Kinkead, age 79, of Aurora, formerly of Marionville, passed away at 11:01 a.m. on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at his home. He was born on March 6, 1931 in Ash Grove, Missouri, the youngest of ten children, to Fredrick and Ida (Crider) Kinkead. Bob lived in the Lawrence County community since 1965 and worked for IDF as a maintenance man.

Those surviving him include, five daughters; Robyn Hovis, Shelly Feeney of Wyoming, Brenda Carr of Springfield; Valene “Tootie” Price and her husband, David of Aurora; Janette “Sally” White of Marionville; three sons, Scott Kinkead and his wife Ranea of Fenton, Missouri; Jeff “Buck” Kinkead and his fiancé, Sally of Marionville, Steven “Shorty” Kinkead of Marionville; 12 grandchildren, Josh, Colby, Dane, Ericka, Daminion, Lyndsay, Chelsey, Tyler, Brett, Grant, Tyler and Andy; and one great grandson, Jared. His parents, nine brothers and sisters, Floyd, Earl, William, Loyd, Oma, Genieva, Verlee, Dorthy, and Wanda Jean preceded him in death.

Graveside services, under the direction of the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 12, 2010 at the Maple Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12:00 p.m. until the service time.

Leroy Holderman, mt. Vernon - Service Tuesday

Leroy William Holdeman, age 86, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 08, 2010 in the Missouri Veteran’s Home, Mt. Vernon. He was born on December 27, 1923, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the son of Timothy and Nora (Froslie) Holdeman.

Leroy was a World War II Navy Veteran and was an Air Traffic Controller for the Federal Aviation Administration. He was a member of the Northside Baptist Temple of Mt. Vernon. On February 3, 1950 he married Patsy Ruth Webb.

Those surviving him include: three sons, Scott Holdeman of Laughlin, Nevada, Jeff and Steve Holdeman of San Diego, California; four grandkids, Daniel, Angie, Chris and Jeff Holdeman, Jr.; one great granddaughter; sister-in-law, Pat Holdeman.

His parents, wife, brother Clayton Holdeman and sister Darlene Holdeman, preceded him in death.

Funeral services, under the direction of Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 in the Northside Baptist Temple in Mt. Vernon. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Mt. Vernon City Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 12, in the church.

Andrew Shimek, Mt.Vernon -Service today

Andrew Dean Shimek, Sr., age 67, of Mt. Vernon passed away at 8:45 p.m. on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at his home. He was born on December 12, 1942 in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of Andrew and Edith Hester (Campbell) Schimek. Andy graduated high school at Shawnee Missions North in 1961. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, and was placed in the Sea Bees, where he was trained in the field of carpentry of that he used for the rest of his life. Upon coming home, he started working at a Government Office Supply Warehouse and worked there for 19 years. He was a photographer and owning his own studio and helped build several new Kingdom Halls. Andy dedicated his life to Jehovah, and was baptized in February 1976. He was a member of the Miller Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness.

Those surviving him include; his wife, Betty and sons Drew and Michael Shimek of Mt. Vernon; one daughter, Angela Stinemetz of Redwood, California; two adopted daughters, Charolotte Anderson Mayes of Waynesville, North Carolina, and Michelle Bishop of Phoenix, Arizona; and one sister, Ruth “Ginger” Jacobus. His parents and stepdaughter Heather Griffith preceded him in death.

Mary Margaret Lee, residing in the Mt. Vernon Veteran’s Home, passed away on April 3, 2010, at the age of 86. She was preceded in death by her husband, John P. Lee, her son, John Jay Lee, her parents, Roy and Florence (Alexander) Sullens, a brother and sister-in-law, James and Betty Sullens, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Albert and Donna Baumgardner, and brothers-in-law, Bud Mercer and Winnie Atwell.

Mary Margaret was born on November 8, 1923, in Springfield, Missouri. She grew up in Marionville, Missouri and was a 1941 graduate of Marionville High School. Mary Margaret joined the Marine Corp on February 1, 1944. She was stationed at Parris Island, South Carolina, until being honorably discharged in March of 1946. She then returned to the Marionville area and met John Lee in Aurora, Missouri, and they were married on August 3, 1947. They lived together on the Lee Family Farm for more than 60 years. Mary Margaret moved to the Missouri Veteran’s Home in January of 2008.

Mary Margaret is survived by her daughter Vicki Fischer and her husband, John; her daughter-in-law, Debbie Lee; her sister Dorothy Atwell; her grandchildren, Jennifer Lee, John Paul Lee and his wife, Joy Lee; Ryan Fischer and his wife, Vanessa Van Orden, Maggie Fischer and four great-grandchildren, John Dakota, Jay, Jacey and Jaxton Lee.

Rebecca Riley, formerly Aurora- Service Thursday

Rebecca J. Riley, age 74, of Republic formally of Aurora, went home to meet her Lord and Savior at 5:10 a.m. on April 4, 2010 at her home she made with her daughter and son-in-law. Rebecca was born April 18, 1936 in Marionville, Missouri to James Lewis and Olive Florence (Nelson) Jenkins. She was the youngest of six children. Rebecca graduated from Clever High School, in 1956 and later married Lemuel “Bud” Riley on December 21, 1961 in Clever. She drove for the Clever and Aurora School districts for approximately 10 years and then went to work for General Electric where 13 years later she would retire. She remained busy with life and worked for the Aurora Pizza Hut until her heart attack and had to step down.

She was known as “Nanny” to many people and loved helping others. She loved her Lord and Savior. Nanny enjoyed gardening, sewing, and being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always tried to see the good in everyone.

Rebecca was a member of the First Baptist Church in Aurora, for 20 plus years and is now a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Republic.

Those surviving her include; her daughter, Brenda Dryer and her husband, Greg of Republic, her grandchildren and great grandchildren: Ashley Elizabeth (Dryer) Crouch and her son Draven Thomas of Republic, and Megan Erin (Dryer) Gunn and her husband Rusty and their son’s Gatlin Russell, Gage Daniel, and their daughter Bristol Braelyn of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; two brothers; John Jenkins of Clever, and Charles Jenkins and his wife, Beverly of Mt Vernon; three stepchildren Randall Riley of Arkansas, Jr. Riley, and Kenny Riley of the Kansas City area. She had lots of nieces and nephews that loved her dearly.

Preceding her in death: her parents; husband; three siblings Mr. and Mrs. Edward Jenkins, Mr. and Mrs. George Jenkins; and Emile Harris; sister-in-law, Helen Jenkins; and a stepdaughter Rosemary Wilson.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 8, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Aurora, Missouri and she will be buried beside her husband at the Marionville IOOF Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00- 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at the Crafton Cantrell Funeral Home.

Judy Darlene Ray, age 68, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 5:20 a.m. on Sunday, April 4, 2010 in her home. She was born on October 5, 1941 in Noel, Missouri, the daughter of Robert Lewis and Jennie Mae (Smith) Short. Judy graduated from Southwest City High School and obtained her Masters Degree in Teaching from Southwest Missouri State University. On March 17, 1962 she married Richard Paul Ray in Springfield, Missouri. Judy taught High School English for Ozark, Republic, Marionville, and Mt. Vernon School Districts. She was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Those surviving her include; her husband Richard, of the home; four sons, Jeffrey Ray and his wife, Pamela Alexander of Kansas City, Missouri, Michael Ray, and Gregory Ray, both of Republic, Steven Ray and his wife, Mylene of Carl Junction; and seven grandchildren; Mark Alexander, Carson, Ryan, Justin, Peyton, Josie, and Landon Ray.

Her parents, and two brothers, Dan and Robert Short preceded her in death.

Grace Ann Surls, age 75, of Hoberg, Missouri passed away at 9:50 a.m. on Monday, March 29, 2010 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. She was born on February 25, 1935 in Berryville, Arkansas, the daughter of John Wesley and Sara Jan (Buck) Allred. Grace moved to Hoberg from Battlefield in the early 1990’s and had worked for McBee Binders in Springfield. On December 21, 1988 she married Marvin Dean Surls in Battlefield, Missouri. He survives her of the home.

Additional survivors include; two daughters, Linda Beeson and her husband, Bill of Miller, Kathy Helms of Osceola; three sons, Johnny Allen and his wife, Karen of Miller, Larry Allen and his wife, Dawn of Republic, Jerry Allen and his wife, Terri of Springfield; one brother, Robert Allred and his wife, Janice of Cassville; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. Her parents, John Allread and Sara Jane Kelly and her grandson, Lynn Beeson preceded her in death.

Betty JoAnn Kristek, age 80, of Verona, passed away at 11:45 a.m. on Sunday, March 28, 2010 at the Aurora Nursing Center. She was born on June 29, 1929 in Wichita, Kansas, the daughter of Glenn and Viola (Apple) Hamman. Betty was a 1947 graduate of Wichita East High School and graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing. She worked as a nurse for Dr. Glover in Mt. Vernon, the Aurora Community Hospital and St. Vincent’s Hospital in Monett. Betty also worked as the camp nurse for Camp Renewal, was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, and Cursillo, and assisted with RCIA classes at her church. On September 30, 1952, she married Albert Kristek in Verona and he preceded her in death on October 30, 1988.

Those surviving her include, her children, Dennis Kristek and his wife, Carolyn of Verona, Viola Kirk and her husband, Chester of Aurora, Patricia Drake and her husband, Richard of Monett, Therese Ramos and her husband, Jeci of Springfield, Fay Bryant of Aurora, Craig Kristek and his wife, Georgette of Verona, and Nancy Smith-Leach and her husband, John of Mt.Vernon; one brother, Chuck Hamman and his wife, Dorothy of Chicago, Illinois; two sisters, Punky Atteberry and her husband, Spud of Verona, and Katie Barger and her husband Ray of Towanda, Kansas; 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; several step grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Her parents; stepmother, Margaret; son, Kelly Kristek; brother, Frank Hamman; great granddaughter, Tristan Kristek; and son-in-law Mike Bryant, also preceded her in death.

Donna Rose Hill, age 73, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 2:55 a.m. on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at the Missouri Rehabilitation Center in Mt. Vernon. She was born on March 30, 1937 in Clarksville, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Fred Rada and Julia (Hegedus) Karanovich. Donna was a nurse for over 50 years and worked in hospitals and in home care.

Those surviving her include; one son, Pete Karanovich of West Virginia; three daughters, Julia Suggs of South Carolina, Jane Buerhel of Arizona, and Grace Jeansonne of Mt. Vernon; one brother, Fred Karanovich; 12 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Her parents and her sister, Millie Grigons preceded her in death.

Donna loved her grandchildren and they enjoyed going to ‘grandma’s house’ for visits.

They will miss her.

Helen Louise Chudomelka, age 91, of Aurora, Missouri passed away at 9:05 a.m., on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at the Lawrence County Manor in Mt. Vernon, Missouri. She was born on June 14, 1918 in Dodge, Nebraska, the daughter of, Anton and Mary E. (Uher) Havelka. On September 27, 1938 she married Lambert M. Chudomelka in Dodge, Nebraska and together they built a successful grain and cattle farm in Marshall County, Iowa before moving with her family to Ozark, Missouri where they became dairy farmers for over 30 years. She was a Charter member of the National Farmers’ Organization, and was a founding member of St. Joseph the Worker’s Catholic Parish in Ozark, Missouri. In 1979 they moved to Aurora, Missouri and she later obtained her Licensed Practical Nursing degree to care for her husband during his illness. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

Those surviving her include, three sons, Lambert A. Chudomelka of Halltown, Missouri Charles A. Chudomelka and his wife, Lorraine of Springfield, Missouri; John Chudomleka and his wife, Suzie of Houston, Texas; three daughters, Mary Jane Grajal and her husband, Luis of Madrid, Spain, Kathleen Chudomelka of Mt. Vernon, Missouri Jo Ann Southern and her husband John of Tulsa, Okalahoma; two brothers, Edward Havelka of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Tony Havelka and his wife, Barbara of Verona, Missouri; 12 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Eldon M. Starling, age 85, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 2:50 a.m. on March 23, 2010 at the Autumn Court Residential Center in Mt. Vernon. Eldon was born on February 6, 1925 in Lowden, Iowa, the son of Arnold and Rose (Mourey) Starling. On September 17, 1949 he married Madeline Koile in Illinois. She preceded him in death on April 26, 1976. Eldon was the owner of Tom’s Candy route for 15 years, he was cattle farmer and an auctioneer, and was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Mt. Vernon.

Those who survive him include: four daughters, Danita Berghammer of Pine City, Minnesota, Derice, of Milan, Illinois, Dawn Long of Medford, Wisconsin, and Darlis Gulick, of Miller; four sons, David Starling of Ames, Iowa, Darrel Starling of Independence, Iowa, Larry Starling of Missouri and Dennis Starling of Calamus, Iowa; nineteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and a special friend, Ruth Potter, of Mt. Vernon.

His parents, daughter, Darla Mae Starling, and a sister, Bethal Bartels, also preceded him in death.

He was a 2001 graduate of the Mt. Vernon High School and a 2005 graduate of Missouri State University in Springfield. Jamen worked for Conway Construction, a family business. He was very involved with fitness, and he was a member of the Delta Sigma Pi Fraternity and a member of the Halltown Baptist Church.

Those who survive him include, his parents, Rick and Beth Conway, one sister, Jessica Stokes and her husband, Caleb; two brothers, Jared Conway and his wife, Crystal, and Justin Conway; paternal grandparents, Hubert and Charlotte Conway, all of Mt. Vernon had a lawnmower repair business and also worked as a salesman for Russell-Beldin Electrical Wholesales in Joplin. On July 15, 1951 he married Beverly Wilson in Wichita, Kansas.

Those who survive him are; his loving wife of 58 years, Beverly, of Mt. Vernon; his children, Kenneth Leddon and his wife, Gail of Anaheim Hills, California, Randy Leddon of Poulsbo, Washington, Kathy Galindo of Springfield, Missouri, Kirk Leddon and Lisa Brenneman, both of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, eleven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. His parents, three brothers, and two sisters preceded him in death.

Betty Jean Daniel, age 81, of Ozark, Missouri died peacefully at home on
Friday, March 12, 2010. She was the daughter of Charles R. Calton and
Margaret Fischer Calton of Verona, Missouri. She was united in marriage
to Glen Andrew Daniel on June 30, 1951 in Aurora, Missouri and resided
in the Aurora area for more than 40 years. Together they had two
children, Patricia (Derrick), a professor at Salisbury University in
Maryland, and Andrew Daniel, a land surveyor in Ozark, Missouri. Betty
was devoted to her four grandchildren, Deirdre, Rowan, Gus, and Christi,
and one great-grandchild, Cecilia. She is also survived by many beloved
nieces and nephews. Betty graduated from St. John's School of Nursing in
1950 and began her calling in nursing at the Aurora Community Hospital.

*Betty enjoyed cooking, reading, music, and spending time with her
family, friends, and nursing school classmates. She will be fondly
remembered and sorely missed. *

Howard Talbott, Jr., age 87, of Aurora, passed away at 11:45 p.m. on
Saturday, March 13, 2010 at the Aurora Nursing Center. He was born on
July 4, 1922 in Fairmont, Oklahoma, the son of Howard and Marie
(Brumley) Talbott. Howard was a 1942 graduate of Pioneer High School and
a Sergeant in the United States Army Air Force, serving in WWII. He
worked as a railroader, having worked for Frisco and Santa Fe in Enid,
Oklahoma, and then worked for Equity Export in Deer Park, Texas as an
Engineer and a Forman. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars
Post #2270 in Enid, Oklahoma, and served as commander in the 1960's. On
February 27, 1949 he married Ina Mae Thurman in Aurora.

Those surviving him include; his wife of 61 years; Ina Mae Talbott; two
children, Terry L. Talbot and his wife, Pat of Rogers, Arkansas, and
Pamela Sue Dodson of Aurora; and two granddaughters, Tabitha Nickolas
and her husband, Ralph of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Heather
Talbott of Texas. His parents; and sister, Juanita Baker preceded him in
death.

Home, will be held in Enid, Oklahoma at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 18,

Melvin Duncan, Mt. Vernon - Services Monday

Melvin Randall Duncan, age 73, Mt. Vernon, passed away at 12:20 a.m.
on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at the Missouri Rehabilation Center in Mt.
Vernon. He was born on June 20, 1936 in Joplin Missouri, the son of
Lawrence and Nellie (Gilbert) Duncan. Melvin was a Minister for the
Assembly of God Church in Enid, Oklahoma, retiring in 2003. He was also
a member of the Kiwanis in Enid and a member of the Full Gospel Business
Men's Association. On October 26, 1958 he married Nancy Taylor in
Anderson, Missouri. She survives of the home.

Additional survivors include: one son, Mark Duncan, of Hollister,
Missouri; and one sister, Wanda Reynolds of Joplin, Missouri. His
parents; son, Melvin Duncan, Jr.; and two brothers, Theodore and Virgil
Duncan preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 15, 2010 in
the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon.

Emma Young, Aurora - Services Saturday at 2pm

Emma Young, age 75, of Aurora, passed away, with her family by her side, at 10:55 p.m., on Thursday, March 11, 2010, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Emma was born on October 21, 1934 in Northern Italy, the daughter of Thomas and Anna (Eder) Weiglein. She was born during the outbreak of WWII, and Emma and her German parents were then forced to move back to Schweinfurt, Germany. On January 29 and on January 30, she married Robert Eugene “Bob” Young in Germany while he was stationed there in the Army.

Emma was employed at the Juvenile Shoe Factory and the Aurora Bowling Alley. She enjoyed German music, animals, flowers, and especially children. She was a natural caregiver, taking in and feeding two and four legged strays, and never missed an Ernté Fest. Most importantly Emma loved her children more than life itself.

Those surviving her include, her husband of 51 years, Bob of the home; three children, Dr. Peter Young of Kansas City and Aurora; Susie English and her husband, Mike of Joplin, and Thomas Young and his wife, Lane of Kansas City; her one and only granddaughter, Emma Christine Young; two brothers, James Weiglein of Aurora and August Weiglein of Germany; and one sister Martha McGaugh of Waldron, Arkansas.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until the service starts at 2:00 p.m. Those who loved and wish to share memories, please join the family after the memorial service at the Metropolitan Kafé immediately after the service. Memorial donations may be made to the Aurora Nursing Center in care of the funeral home.

Armond Eugene Wilson, age 93, of Miller, passed away at 7:33 p.m. on
Thursday, March 4, 2010 at the St. John's Hospital in Springfield. He
was born on January 8, 1917 in Lawrence County the son of Jesse and
Gertie (Bell) Wilson. Armond was a 1935 graduate of Halltown High School
and a member of the Halltown Baptist Church. Prior to spending 39 years
in the dairy business, he with his brother-in-law, Clyde Murphy, had a
machinery business at the 7-mile corner. In September 1940, he married
Victoria (Vicky) Miota in Concord, California. She preceded him in death
on February 5, 1995.

Those surviving him include, daughter, Barbara Cole and her husband,
Gary, of Everton;

two sons, Ronald Wilson and his wife, Connie, and Galen Wilson and his
wife, Carla, all of Miller; six grandchildren, Kimberly Leeper and her
husband, Joe, of Mt. Vernon, Shawnda Davis and her husband, Jason, of
Osceola, Missouri, Kristin Cole and Sherry, of Everton, Brian Wilson of
Nixa, Brent Wilson and his wife, Heather, of Demopolis, Alabama,
Jennifer Miller and her husband, Frankie, of Mt. Vernon; twelve great
grandchildren; one sister, Helen Land, of Neosho and several nieces and
nephews. His parents, sister, Esther Murphy, and brother, John Paul
Wilson preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at
the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Burial will follow at the
Rock Prairie Cemetery in Halltown. Visitation will be held from
6:00–8:00 p. m. on Monday, March 8, 2010 at the funeral home chapel.

Ruby Pyle - Mt. Vernon - Graveside Wed

Ruby Myra Pyle, age 77, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 12:15 p.m. on
Saturday, March 6, 2010 at her home. She was born on August 6, 1932 in
Summersville, Missouri, the daughter of James P. and Oda Frances
(Johnson) Hammons. Ruby was a 1950 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School
and lived in the community her entire life. She was a homemaker and a
member of the New Hope Baptist Church. On March 6, 1954 she married
Charley Pyle in Crane, Missouri and he preceded her in death on January
15, 1984.

Those surviving her include, five daughters, Carolyn Hutsell and her
husband, Mike, and Joyce Schroeder, all of Mt. Vernon, Sharon Sheppard
and her husband, Ed of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, Linda Reine and her
husband, Steve of Blue Springs, Deanna Morris and her husband, David of
Aurora; one son, James Pyle and his wife, Sheila of Aurora; one,
brother, Bobby Hammons and his wife, Ernestine of Ash Grove; 15
grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Her parents; three brothers; Ralph and Leroy Bryson, and Charles
Hammons; and an infant sister also preceded her in death.

A graveside service, under the direction of the Fossett-Mosher Funeral
Home, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on March 10, 2010 at the Summit
Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. A visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
on Tuesday in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to

MILDRED MARIE WINSTON

Mildred “Millie” Winston, age 90, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 8:10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at the Mt. Vernon Place Care Center. She was born on June 15, 1919 in Lockwood, Missouri, the daughter of Earl and Nannie (Duke) Roberts. Millie was a 1935 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School. After graduation she worked at McShane Drug until starting her family. Later she went to work at the First National Bank, where she worked as a teller for 38 years. Millie had many loyal customers at the bank. She also loved to bake pies and cakes for her family and friends. Her specialty was her coffee cake, which is legendary. Millie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mt. Vernon. On August 26, 1947 she married Charles Winston in Rogers, Arkansas. He preceded her in death on November 10, 2009.

Those surviving her include, her son, Bruce Winston of Springfield; two daughters, Cathy Winston of Springfield, and Carol Rimoldi and her husband, Bixio of Lausanne, Switzerland; three granddaughters, Carrie Winston of Springfield, and Ilaria and Elena Rimoldi, of Lausanne, Switzerland. Her parents and two brothers, Harold and Eldred Roberts preceded her in death.

Memorial services, under the direction of Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, March 8, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church of Mt. Vernon with burial in the Mt. Vernon IOOF Cemetery.

William Scott Mason, age 37, of Aurora, passed away on Saturday,
February 27, 2010 at his home. He was born on October 4, 1972 in
Stella, Missouri, the son of Bobby and Barbara (Haile) Mason. Scott was
a 1994 graduate of the North Pole Alaska High School. Scott liked
watching movies, listening to country music, particularly songs by Alan
Jackson, and spending time with his dog Robbie.

Those surviving him include, his mother, Barbara Mason of Aurora; father
and stepmother, Bobby and Betty Mason of Goodman, Missouri; sister,
Debbie Mason and nephew, Jacob Wise both of Aurora. His grandparents
preceded him in death.

Sondra Lynn Kennedy, age 50, of Waxahachie, Texas, formerly of Aurora, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2010 at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Sondra was born on September 17, 1959 in Monett, Missouri, the daughter of Leroy and Betty Jean (Bradley) Parker. Sondra was a 1978 graduate of Aurora High School, and known for her work with the Relay For Life programs. On June 9, 1978 she married Tim Kennedy in Aurora and he survives her of the home. Prior to moving to Waxahachie in 2008, Sondra owned and operated Blessings Floral in Marionville and the Kennedy Tax Service. She was a member of the Aurora Baptist Temple, and with her husband Tim, was greatly involved with the ministries of their church. In Texas she attended the Red Oak First Baptist Church.

Additional survivors include, her mother, Betty Parker of Aurora; two sons, Brandon Kennedy and his wife, Melissa of Waxahachie, Texas and Josh Kennedy and his wife, Ashley of Mt. Vernon; brother, Steven Parker and his wife, Deanna of Aurora; and her granddaughter, Abigail Kennedy. Her father, and son Caleb preceded her in death.

Eva Fern Meadows, age 93, of Aurora, passed away at 6:00 a.m. on February 20, 2010 at the Aurora Nursing Center. She was born on June 17, 1916 in Bluff, Missouri, the daughter of Richard and Mae Bell (Dewitt) Meadows. She was a 1933 graduate of Forsyth High School and received her teaching certificate from Southwest Missouri State Teachers College. Eva taught for the Meadows School in Walnut Shade on Bull Creek in Taney County. After teaching she also worked as a secretary, a hairdresser, and a domestic assistant for a family in Kansas City for many years.

Those surviving her include; four nieces, Bonnie Voss and her husband, Jim of Saddlebrooke, Missouri, Wanda Stephens and her husband, Bill of Galena, Missouri; Diane Victor and her husband, Jerry of Shore Acres, Texas, and Martha Quesenberry and her husband, Basil of Cabool, Missouri; one nephew, David Haskett and his wife, Pam of Yorktown, Virginia; and, niece-in-law, Yvonne Glover of Warner, Oklahoma.

Her parents; two sisters, Clysta Cleo Haskett and Lena Chloe Glover; and nephew Wade Glover preceded her in death.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home with burial at the Maple Park Cemetery.

Kenny Hartwigsen, age 59, of Verona, passed away at 12:30 p.m. on February 19, 2010 at his residence. He was born on August 10, 1950 in Jefferson, Iowa, the son of Ira Paul and Helen Louise (Finch) Hartwigsen. He was a 1968 graduate of Aurora High School and he received his Associate Degree in 1970 from Crowder College in Neosho, Missouri. Kenny had worked for thirty-four years at Schreiber Foods in Monett. Over the years he enjoyed hobbies such as racing his racecar and calf roping. On June 4, 1998 he married Cindy Allen in Miami, Oklahoma.

Those surviving him include: his wife, Cindy; two daughters, Lindsey Hartwigsen, of Springfield, Missouri and Lacey Maples and her husband, Justin, of Crane; four sons, Kevin Hartwigsen and his wife, Ashley and Kenny Hartwigsen Jr. and his wife, Michelle, all of Aurora, Chance Hood and Chelsey, of Verona and Danny Moore and his wife, Robin, of Lebanon, Missouri; six grandchildren, Austin, Madison, Evan, Makenna, Quiency and Dakota; two brothers, Raymond Hartwigsen and his wife, Patti, of Aurora and Charles Hartwigsen and his wife, Nancy, of Collierville, Tennessee; two sisters, Mary Williams and her husband, Loyd, of Aurora and Jean Perry and her husband, Paul, of Crane; father-in-law, Jim Allen of Spokane, Missouri and several nieces and nephews. Rodney W. and Opal I. (Allmon) Andrews. She was a 1963 graduate of
Roosevelt High School in St. Louis, and has lived in the Mt. Vernon
community since 1985. Linda previously worked as a Licensed Practical
Nurse for the Missouri Rehabilitation Center and the Lawrence County
Manor. She also worked as a driver for Rising Phoenix Trucking Company
in Mt. Vernon and Tri-State Trucking Company, retiring in 2001.

Those surviving her include, her mother, Opal Andrews of Aurora; one
daughter, Tina Massengill, of Ozark; one son, Ken Alley and his wife,
Kari of Monett; two grandsons, Shawn Massengill of Springfield and Kyle
Massengill of Osage Beach, Missouri; and one great grandson, David
Anthony Mapes of Aurora. Her father, Rodney Andrews; the father of her
children, Troy Paul Alley; daughter, Leatrice Alley; and grandson,
Robert Anthony Mapes, preceded her in death.

Monett, Missouri the daughter of Elmer W. and Juanita P. (Steven)
Tennison. Linda was a homemaker and of the Catholic faith.

Huffman and Juanita Lane of Galena, Kansas, Felicia Poindexter of
Aurora; one son, Kevin Poindexter of Aurora; one brother, Eddie Tennison

Billie Carl St. Clair, age 77, of Aurora formerly of St. Peters,
Missouri, passed away at 1:20 p.m., on Friday, February 12, 2010 at her
residence. She was born on May 16, 1932 in Rome, Arkansas, the daughter
of Turner and Willie (White) Carsten. Billie was a sales clerk for the
Target Stores. In March of 1950 she married Charles C. St. Clair in
Branson, Missouri. He preceded her in death on October 15, 1978. Her
parents also preceded her in death.

Those surviving her include, three sons, Terry St. Clair and his wife
Jackie, Jerry St. Clair and Larry St. Clair and his wife Teri, all of
St. Charles, Missouri; sister, Laverne Rosencrans and her husband

Thursday, February 11, 2010 at his home. He was born on December 8,
1962 in Monett, Missouri, the son of Ralph and Anne (Mulkey) Barker.
John was a 1981 graduate of Aurora High School and a member of the
United Methodist Church of Aurora.

Those surviving him include, his parents, Ralph and Anne Barker of the
home; one sister, Jill Brandmeyer and her husband, Jim of Kansas City,
Missouri; and one niece Emily. His grandparents preceded him in death.

Mitchell Allen Cross, 45, of Kansas City North, died on February 8,
2010, following a motor vehicle accident.

Mitch was born January 20, 1965 in Aurora, Mo. He graduated from
Marionville (Mo) High School, attended Southern Missouri State
University and later graduated from Cutting Edge Hair Styling Academy.
Mitch worked at Ben Bolt Barber Shop in North Kansas City. He was very
active with his boys' baseball teams and also enjoyed fishing and
participating in the Park Hill Home Run Booster Club.

Mitch was preceded in death by his father, John M. Cross. He leaves his
wife, Kelli; children, Marcus Allen, Preston Lee and Troy Mitchell Allen
Cross, and Taylor Patrick Payne; his mother and step-father, Brenda and
Charles "Hap" Wilson; brother, John Michael Cross and wife Maria; as
well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm Friday, February 12, at the Park
Lawn Northland Chapel, I-35 at 291 Hwy., Liberty. A funeral service
celebrating Mitch's life will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, February 13,

Alice Kathryn Rinker, age 85, of Aurora, passed away at 12:05 a.m., on
Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at St. John's Hospital in Aurora. Alice has
lived in the Aurora community most of her life. The Rinker's are a
direct descendant of Joseph Rinker the founder Aurora and George Rinker
the first Mayor of Aurora. She was born on April 17, 1924 in Imboden,
Arkansas, the daughter of Edward and Ida (Ellis) Crossland. On July 17,
1941 she married Howard Sanford Rinker. He preceded her in death on July
3, 1960.

Alice retired from the Juvenile Shoe Factory in 1976.

Her parents; infant son, Howard; four brothers, Henry, Bert, Jim and
Charles Crossland; and one sister, Naoma Crider also preceded her in death.

Those surviving her include, one daughter, Kay Rinker of Aurora; two
sons, Rudy Rinker and his wife, Robin of Springfield, and Stan Rinker of
Aurora; one brother, Edward Crossland of Bates City, Missouri; three
sisters, Viola Edwards of Springfield, Anna Maples of Miami, Oklahoma,
and Mary McKee of Monett; six grandchildren; Leslie Kay Martin, Lance
Edward Wolfinbarger, Ryann S. Rinker, Rebecca A. Ward, Reghann K.
Rinker, and Abby J. Klemme; nine great grandchildren, Josh D. Martin,

Mrs. Roxann Toka (Vaughn) Cupp, 59, of Aurora Mo, died Sunday February
7, 2010 at her home after a short illness.

She was born October 17, 1950 in Hickory, Ark. to Lloyd and Edna
(Tucker) Vaughn. She was united in marriage to Delbert Cupp May 28, 1968
in St. Louis, Mo. She lived in the Aurora area for more than 55 years.
Mrs. Cupp had worked in the medical field most of her life. She was an
EMT for the Barry Lawrence County Ambulance, a CMA in long term care
facilities in the area for over ten years, a home health-care provider
in the area with integrity Health Care in Joplin and for 15 years she
was a certified medical assistant for Dr. Jones.

Mrs. Cupp is survived by her husband Delbert; one son, Mike Cupp of
Springfield Mo.; one daughter, Dawn Moore of Aurora, Mo.; one brother,
Leon Vaughn of Monett Mo.; two sisters, Earlene England of Stella, Mo.
and Nadine Bearden of Eugene, Ore.; and three grandchildren. Mrs. Cupp
was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Amber Darneil
Cupp, May 7, 1993.

Visitation will be in the Bennett-Wormington Funeral home in Monett Mo.
Wednesday, February 10, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. Services will be held at
the funeral home Thursday February 11, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev.

February 8, 2010 at his residence. He was born on September 7, 1932 in
Modesto California the son of Virgil and Elsie (Simons) Root. He was an
Army Veteran of the Korean War, member of American Legion Post 120,
Lifetime member of the VFW Post 4541. Don owned a Grocery Store and a
Cocktail Lounge in Modesto, California before moving to Miller in 1980
where he built the Rusty Nail Saloon and also owned the Crossroad
Convenience Store and property in Miller. He married LaVada Howard in
Reno Nevada in 1975.

Those who survive him include: his wife, LaVada, of the home; daughter,
Donnene Hudspeth and her husband, John of Roseville, California; sister,
Yvonne Spencer of Fresno, California; brother, Gene Root and his wife,
Vera of Thyme Wyoming; two brother-in-laws, Winford Howard and his wife,
Sandy of Verona and Jack Howard of Modesto California. His parents, and
brother, Richard Root, preceded him in death.

Eula Faye Topper, 70, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 3:10 p.m. on Sunday,
February 7, 2010 in the Cox South Hospital, Springfield. Eula was born
on November 29, 1939 in Miller the daughter of Homer and Sue Ella
(Smith). She was a graduate of the Miller High School with the class of
1958, served as the head bookkeeper for the First National Bank in Mt.
Vernon from 1958 thru 1973, where she was one of the first two ladies to
be an officer in the bank. She retired in 2007 as a sales
representative for Avon after 27 years. On July 23, 1963 she married
James Topper in Miller.

Those who survive her are: husband, James, of the home; daughter,
Sharon Collins and her husband, Mike; son, Aaron Topper and his wife,
Shannon all of Mt. Vernon; grandkids, Rendie, Abbie, Colton and Dylan

Springfield, Missouri.

Victoria "Vicki" Childress Archer, 44, of Republic, formerly of Aurora,
passed away in her sleep Friday morning, February 5, 2010.

A 1983 graduate of Aurora High School, Vicki was an avid NASCAR fan and
considered herself an "Earnhardt girl,"—being a top fan of Dale
Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt Jr. On May 27, 1983 she married Pete Archer
in Tempe, Arizona. She was a homemaker and loved spending time with her
family and friends. Always flashing a beautiful smile, she enjoyed
people, adventure and looking for the good in those she came across each
day. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Taryn Nicole Archer; her
maternal grandmother, Helen C. Yoakum; and her paternal grandparents,
Jim and Lucille Childress.

She is survived by her husband and soulmate, Pete of the home; her
father, Jimmy (and Maxine) Childress of Aurora; her mother, Genny
Wagoner (and James) of Republic and Scottsdale, Arizona; three sisters,

Phyllis Margaret Beck died on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 in the Aurora
Nursing Center. She was 94 years old.

Mrs. Beck was born in Webb City, Missouri, on October 19, 1915, to Alta
and Floyd Cannon. She grew up in Webb City, attending the Webb City
schools. In 1932, she married William Daniel (Dub) Beck of Carthage.
They lived in Carthage until 1945 when they moved to Aurora.

Mrs. Beck was an active member of the Chapter DD of the P.E.O. and a
longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church. She loved music and
played both the organ and the piano. She also enjoyed playing golf,
bridge and traveling with her husband.

She had been in 48 of the 50 states, plus five different continents. She
had flown in a blimp, a hot-air balloon, a helicopter, a private plane
and commercial planes, including the Concorde.

When Mr. Beck, Cliff Journagan and Bob Thurman owned the B & T
Supermarket on the square in Aurora, she enjoyed keeping books for the
store. After the store was sold, she still enjoyed keeping books and
keeping track of what companies merged with what companies.

She had many good friends throughout her years. Her two sisters
pre-deceased her. Doris Beeler lived in Joplin and Frances Mitchell
lived in Virginia. She is survived by one daughter, Marilyn Kessler of
Belvedere, California; one granddaughter, Christina Robinson, of
Tiburon, California; and three grandchildren, Hayley, William and Walker.

A memorial service, under the direction of the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral
Home, will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 17, at the First
Presbyterian Church with burial in the Maple Park Cemetery.

William Michael "Mike" Zay, age 68, of Aurora, passed away at 2:38 a.m.
on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield,
Missouri. He was born on December 23, 1941 in Springfield, the son of
William John and Merry (Waddell) Zay. Mike was a 1959 graduate of
Parkview High School in Springfield and was a U.S. Marine veteran. He
was the former owner of the Elliott Street Laundromat and Aurora Bowl.
Mike worked as a broker for Century 21 in Aurora, was a member of the
Aurora Lions Club, the Aurora United Methodist Church, and former
councilman for the city of Aurora.

Those surviving him include Danette Zay of the home; five daughters,
Sabra and Angela Zay of Springfield, Ashley Ivkovic of Leawood, Kansas,
Audrey Koop of St. Louis, Annalyn Zay of New Orleans, Louisiana; one
sister, Elizabeth Zay of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; one brother, Bob Zay of
West Hollywood, California; three stepchildren; Alison Perriman of
Lecenter, Washington, Amy Savage and Joshua Barr of Aurora; sixteen
grandchildren and one great-grandchild. His parents preceded him in death.

Mr. Jerry Dale Burleson, 65, Republic, passed away Thursday, January 28,
2010, in Cox South Hospital, Springfield. He was born January 27, 1945,
in Verona, Mo., the son of Arthur and Bessie (Smart) Burleson.
He was united in marriage to Marilyn Farquer June 3, 1966, and they were
blessed with one daughter. Jerry was a foreman at Vermillion Wood
Products, Springfield, before retirement. He loved fishing, restoring
old cars, sports on TV, and collecting die cast cars. His parents
preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of the home; his daughter, Sherry
Lewis; and a grandson, Austin Lewis, all of Republic; siblings, Billie
Garrison, Aurora, Ray Burleson, Shell Knob, and Charles Burleson,
Aurora; and other relatives and friends.

Terry Lee Miller
Terry Lee Miller, 63, of Aurora, Missouri, passed away January 29, 2010,
in St. John's Medical Center in Springfield, after a two year battle
with cancer.
Terry was born September 5, 1946, in the old Cowan
Hospital, in Greenfield, Mo., the son of Leroy and Mary Helen Miller. He
grew up in South Greenfield and was a 1964 graduate of Greenfield High
School. Terry earned an MBA degree from Southwest Missouri State
University in l976.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents; and both
sets of grandparents, George and Carrie Miller and Leonard and Helen
Claypool. He is survived by his brother, Alan; and two sisters, Janie
Miller and Linda Vander Waal, all of Springfield. He is also survived by
two nephews, Brent Miller of Jefferson City, Mo., and Mark Miller of
Fredericksburg, Va.; and one niece, Crystal Callahan of Springfield, Mo.

Arrangements are under the direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home South,
441 W. Battlefield, Springfield, Mo. No formal visitation is planned. A
